My primary occupation and ministry is serving as a teacher at Morrison Academy Kaohsiung.
I am one of two ELL (English Language Learning) teachers at our campus. I have small classes of two to five children in a grade level at a time. I teach selected grades in grade levels K-9, so I have quite a diversity of classes and students. Most of my students come to me speaking two to three languages other than English, and English is not their first language. In my time at Morrison so far, I have had students who speak the following languages in addition to English: Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese, Cantonese, Korean, Japanese, German, and Spanish. In my class these English language learners are taught to speak, read, and write fluently in English. I truly enjoy being able to work so closely with my students and to focus on their individual needs. In addition to ELL, last year I taught 6th grade language arts, and this year, I am teaching 7th grade Bible. These are full-size classes, and they keep me on my toes and add a bit of excitement to my days!
The school community is great as well. I am blessed to work and live with a group of believers who are giving themselves to serve the Lord overseas. Working at Morrison, I feel supported by my administrators and peers, and daily I experience the community of the body of Christ. In addition to the “extended family” that I have found here, it is a joy to teach at the same school as my sister, Sara. Morrison has been a place of healing and strengthening for me, and I believe that God is working in and through me for his Kingdom here.——
